The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is dedicated to safeguarding food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment and economy. CFIA’s plans and priorities link directly to the Government of Canada's priorities for bolstering economic prosperity, strengthening security at the border and of the safety of the food supply, protecting the environment and contributing to the health of Canadians. CFIA’s strategic outcomes: - Public health risks associated with the food supply and transmission of animal disease to humans are minimized and managed
- A safe and sustainable plant and animal resource base
- Contributes to consumer protection and market access based on the application of science and standards
Food safety is the CFIA's top priority. The CFIA, along with many federal, provincial and municipal organizations, is working to improve the overall health of Canadians. The CFIA develops and delivers programs and services designed to protect Canadians from preventable food safety hazards, to ensure that food safety emergencies are effectively managed, and that the public is aware of--and contributes to--food safety. This, and other information about the role of CFIA, can be found at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's website.
